A gunman threatened terrified staff at a bookies before stealing a four-figure sum of cash.
The robber walked into the Coral bookmakers, in London Road, Westcliff, shortly after 8.30am this morning, Tuesday, and threatened staff with a firearm.
After forcing them to hand over the money, he ran off in the direction of Leigh and police have now launched a manhunt.
The robber had a dust mask over his face, and wore a grey jacket with a high-visibility vest on top, plus black tracksuit bottoms. He was also carrying a blue carrier bag.
Anyone with information about the robbery is urged to contact detectives at Rayleigh police station on 0300 3334444.
