Two Witham men are looking to re-build their lives after the trauma of a three-year jail term.

Cousins Michael Binnington and Luke Atkinson, who believe they were wrongly imprisoned, were welcomed home by their relieved families on April 28.

Following their release, Witham MP Priti Patel said: “It’s a long time overdue.

“They just need some breathing space to get on with their lives after what has been such a traumatic situation.”

The pair, aged in their 20s, were passengers in a car which hit and killed a motorcyclist in Cyprus in 2006.

Initially, Cypriot judges acquitted them, but in a dramatic twist they then decided to jail them for culpable manslaughter and grievous bodily harm.
