A politician, who founded a campaign to encourage more women into Parliament, defended his membership of gentleman’s clubs.
Braintree MP Brooks Newmark claimed his membership of the exclusive London clubs, Beefsteak, Boodle’s, Cresta and White’s, was completely separate to his political work.
He was named as one of 68 Conservative MPs who are members of 36 London clubs by Labour party member Dan Whittle in his investigation for the Left Foot Forward blog.
Mr Newmark, who is co-chairman of the Women2win campaign which aims to encourage more women to be Conservative MP’s, said: “It is a completely separate issue.
