Four Witham air cadets will be flying high this summer.
Sergeant Rebecca Baker,15, Corporal Kristian Baker,15, Corporal Grant Cook,15, and Cadet Ellie Shipley, 16, have been awarded the much sought after chance of training throughout the summer to become solo glider pilots.
It is the first time in seven years that cadets from Witham have been awarded scholarships for the course.
The cadets applied for their courses towards the end of last year and have undertaken a selection process, including a medical.
They fought off competition from around Essex to receive their scholarships.
Flight Lieutenant Mat Moakes, Officer Commanding Witham Air Cadets said: “We’re very proud of the four cadets that have been selected.
“The competition for places is tough and to receive four scholarships is fantastic for the Squadron.
“We’re hoping our four cadets will all come back having undertaken a solo flight."
