Pensioners could lose up to £100 to help with energy bills as the Government allows payment top ups to expire.
This year winter fuel payments will drop back to £200 for the over 60s and £300 for the over 80s.
The payments were temporarily increased by £50 and £100 respectively in 2008 to help with rising bills.
But in October’s spending review chancellor George Osborne said the winter fuel payments will remain as budgeted for by the previous Government meaning the top ups will no longer be available.
Chairman of the Braintree District Pensioner’s Action Group Graham Oates said: “It is a cut if we are not going to receive it.
