Homeowners were woken at 3am after a car crashed through a wrought iron fence and destroyed a bay window.

The police were called to the crash in Mill Lane, Witham on Saturday morning.

Residents in Mill Lane have long complained about the dangers of the road and said something must be done about speeding along there.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “We arrested a man and a woman after a car was stolen from Newland Street in Witham at 3am on February 5 and left the road and ended up in a garden.

“We have arrested a 21-year-old man from Witham on suspicion of drink driving, theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, driving whilst disqualified, possesion of a class A drug and possesion of an offensive weapon.

“A 17-year-old girl from Witham was also arrested on suspicion of drink driving and theft of a motor vehicle.

“Both have been released on police bail pending further enquiries until April 6.”
