Residents fear a new nightclub could lead to an increase in vandalism and littering.
At least 60 people living in Manor Street and Victoria Street, Braintree, signed a petition objecting to The Vault, which opened last weekend. The Vault has taken over the town centre premises previously occupied by Club Eden - a lap dancing club.
It was granted a licence at a Braintree Council licensing committee hearing on September 24 despite strong opposition.
Steve Cane, 54, of Victoria Street, said: “If it closes late, a lot of takeaway places will stay open late for customers.
“Then people damage cars in Manor Street and Victoria Street on the way home."
The Vault owner Syed Noor was unavailable to comment.
