A man caught stealing from the company he used to work for is now likely to receive a payout from his former boss.
In a bizarre twist, Mark Gilbert is now suing his former boss Simon Cremer for the trauma caused after Cremer and three colleagues attempted a citizen’s arrest.
In 2008, Cremer of the Witham-based company In-House Flooring, frog-marched Gilbert to Witham police station with a placard around his neck saying “Thief. I stole £845. Am on my way to police station.”
Gilbert was given a police caution for theft, while Cremer of Little Maplestead near Halstead, his brother Andrew and two colleagues were taken to court and bound over to keep the peace for a year to the sum of £500.
The Halstead Gazette/Braintree and Witham Times was unable to contact Gilbert for his side of the story and would encourage him to get in touch.
