Pub landladies who raised thousands of pounds for charity for over 30 years have called time on their fundraising exploits.

Braintree Ladies’ Auxiliary is made up of current and former landladies from the Braintree area, and in their prime gave away up to £3,000 a year to good causes.

But Betty Corder, who has run The Eagle in Coggeshall Road, Braintree, for nearly 22 years, said they decided to fold the club because many are in their 80s, with some in their 50s and another in her 90s.

Mrs Corder, who has been involved with the group for nearly 30 years, said: “There are no more than a dozen of us and I am the only one who runs a pub still.”

They gave away their last £2,500 on Wednesday at a final afternoon tea at The Eagle.
