Businessmen are fed up of words and want to see action to boost the economy in their town.

The plea could lead to Witham’s chamber of commerce and the town’s strategy group playing a more central role in the town’s development.

Members of Witham’s chamber of commerce have discussed a lack of progress on two major projects for the town.

Ian Cass, deputy chairman of the chamber, said he wrote the Allan Reid, Braintree Council’s chief executive, about a fortnight ago asking why a consultation over plans to regenerate Witham’s Newlands shopping precinct did not include the whole town centre. The chamber would like to see development of the centre of Witham, including around the train station, all done in one hit.

Chris Trim, the council’s town centre manager, said the council may look to Witham’s chamber of commerce and the town’s strategy group to take a more active role in the future of the town.
