A SCHOOL principal is leaving after two years at the helm.

Jon Gillard was the first head of the New Rickstones Academy, Witham, which was relaunched in 2008 after changing its name from Rickstones School.

Mr Gillard, who lives in north London, will become principal of a new academy in Enfield from September.

He is moving because it is closer to home.

Norman Wilson, chair of governors at New Rickstones Academy, said the school will be very sorry to see him go.

Mr Gillard will be replaced by Debra Bull, currently vice-principal at the Gateway Academy in Tilbury.

New Rickstones' partner school in Witham, Maltings Academy, will also be getting a new headteacher, after principal Mike O'Sullivan announced his departure in February.

Mr O'Sullivan, who will become head of St Martin's School, Brentwood, this August, will be replaced by John Szynal, currently vice-principal at Greensward Academy in Hockley.
