Two schools in Witham may merge

A community is being consulted on plans to merge an infant and nursery school with a junior school.

If the proposal goes ahead, Templars Infant and Nursery School and Templars Junior School in Cressing Road, Witham, will become a primary and nursery school.

The governing bodies of the schools, together with Essex County Council, are consulting on the proposed amalgamation with effect from January 1 next year.

Kerrie McGrory, currently headteacher of the infant and nursery school, would become headteacher of the primary school.

I do not see the point to this whole "School merging" fascination? Since Maltings Academy and New Rickstones Academy "merged", nothing seems to of changed with the exception of the new buildings. I would understand if pupils from both schools had communications with each other, but this does not seem to be the case. I don't understand it personally.
