Work got officially underway building one of Witham’s new academies.
On Monday there was a turf cutting ceremony at Maltings Academy in Spinks Lane.
The first sod was dug from the soil in the former academy field and many of the professionals involved in the planning of the new academy building were there to see the digger extract the first piece of soil.
Mike O’Sullivan, Headteacher, said: “This is great news as the 18 months of planning which has gone into this moment has finally seen fruition.
“By September 1, 2011, Maltings Academy will be re-housed in a state of the art building that will allow for our stated aims of world class outcome.”
New Rickstones Academy in Conrad Road, Witham, is also set for a new building, with work due to finish at the same time.
