A much-loved learning support assistant who is battling cancer has been chosen for a makeover worth hundreds of pounds.
Joy Mills, who works at Stisted Primary School, was nominated by pupil Phoebe Savill for the Braintree and Witham Times Restyle Your Teacher competition, in association with Freeport Braintree.
Mrs Mills, of York Gardens, Braintree, can look forward to a well-deserved pamper, including a new hair style, makeover, session with a personal stylist and a £600 Freeport Braintree gift card.
The mother-two, and grandmother-of-one, is fighting breast cancer for the second time.
Speaking the day before an operation to remove the rest of her lymph nodes, she said finding out she had won had given her a “real boost”.
“I’m very touched,” she said. “It just reflects the caring and supportive nature of the whole school, particularly my class.”
The 57-year-old works in Kirsty Greenhead’s class, which Phoebe, 11, is in.
Phoebe, of Church Road, Stisted, said: “I chose her because she’s always been at the school, longer than I’ve been there, and she’s been on all the school trips I’ve been on while in this class and she’s always cared after everybody.
“And when she got breast cancer for the second time everybody felt for her.”
