A woman was “clearly petrified” after spotting a UFO more than ten years ago, according to a police report.
The report is one of hundreds of Government UFO files released revealing potential close encounters with extra terrestrials between 1981 and 1996.
The UFO-related document states a woman reported seeing a UFO in Hatfield Peverel.
On November 15 at about 11.15pm an “enormous flat oval shaped object” was spotted whilst the woman was standing in a field behind the Scout hut in Church Road.
The report says she “could see no bright lights or markings other than an extreme bright light which shone to the ground”.
The lady called Braintree police and the report says she was “petrified” of what she had seen and refused to return to the field.
The Ministry of Defence and National Archives released 14 files last week as part of a staggered release of 150 files held about UFOs.
As well as reported sightings from the public, the documents contain investigations and Government briefing papers.
The Ministry of Defence said it examines reports only to establish whether UK airspace may have been compromised by hostile or unauthorised military activity.
