A "declining part" of Witham is being looked at for redevelopment.
A 6.600 sq metres site around Dorothy Sayers Drive, Laburnum Way shops and the Rickstones pavilion, in Witham, could be set for a revamp as councillors agreed that a project should go forward.
A proposal to redevelop the area was first mooted in July 2008 and, at Witham Local Committee on June 30, local councillors recommended terms of reference for a development brief.
"I'm very pleased to see that this is coming forward," said Bob Evans (Lab, Witham North)"Our hope in Witham North is that we will see some significant and substantial improvements in due course."
Michael Lager (Con, Witham Chipping Hill and Central) said: "For a long time this has become a declinging part of our town and it's certainly time we put a bit of energy into regenerating it."
It is hoped that consultants for the project will be appointed in October.
