A BMX club is set to get a special visit from a chief London 2012 Olympic Games organiser.

Sebastian Coe, who is chairman of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), will visit the Braintree Bullets BMX Club on July 21.

Lord Coe, who is a double Olympic Champion and 12-time world record holder in athletics, won gold in the 1,500m and silver in the 800m at both the Moscow 1980 and Los Angeles 1984 Games.

Julian Allen, 35, coach and manager of the track maintenance team, added: “I was very shocked when I heard about Sebastian Coe coming. It’s great to have that recognition from someone so high up in the British Olympic movement."

The club is also having a 25th birthday bash and open day on Saturday July 11.

There will be a dirt jump competition, pit bike race, barbecue, bands, DJs, ‘old skool’ videos and a no clips payback race, Gates will open at 3.30pm with an official opening at 5.30pm to celebrate the club’s new national standard status and its birthday.

Registration for competitions will take place at 4pm and races will start at 6pm.

The club still has some ongoing projects which include putting an asphalt surface on the berns (sides bends), replacing the start gate, resurfacing the asphalt start hill as well as creating a car park drainage system and resurfacing the car park.

Greenfields Community Housing will be giving the club a cash injection of £26,358 to help fund the projects.
