Tesco has applied for permission for a micro wind turbine at its store in Witham.
The supermarket chain lodged an application for permission with Braintree Council on October 30.
The proposal is for a 10.6 metres tall micro wind turbine to be situated at the Tesco store in the Grove Shopping Centre, Witham.
The turbine would be a steel tower and frame with white aluminium blades and it would be at least 50 metres from any homes.
A supporting statement from Tesco’s planning agents, TNEI Services Ltd, says: “It is envisaged that TNEI Services Ltd on behalf of Tesco will submit several planning applications for the turbines during 2008.
“WindRotors are to be installed in appropriate locations within the curtilage of existing Tesco stores and depots throughout the UK and the renewable electricity they produce will be fed directly into the stores in question, reducing their consumption of conventionally produced electricity and, therefore, their carbon footprint.”
