The branch welcomed two visitors to this month’s meeting and also welcomed Margaret Danger, who has returned after her knee replacement.

Birthday posies were presented to Maureen Hilliard, Cecily Hubard and Jean Sullivan.

Congratulations went to Avril Milsom, who has a new granddaughter.

Members brought plates of buffet food for a harvest supper and held an auction of a large variety of items provided by members.

Carol James acted as auctioneer and a sum of £90 was raised to add to branch funds.

Some members took a trip into London and enjoyed the Sound of Music at the London Palladium.

There will be a coach trip to Diamonds for Denman, visiting Denman College, the WI national college in Oxfordshire, to join in its diamond jubilee celebrations.

Members are also looking forward to the Christmas shopping trip to Bruges at the end of November.

There will also be a homemade produce/cake stall at the craft fair in the village hall on October 30.

The result of this month’s voluntary competition, honest I found it, was: 1 Jean Sutton, with an old £5 note; 2 Rita Willis and Carol James, with a whistle and a ring respectively; and 4 Ruth Chilcott, with a porcupine quill.

This year’s open evening was very well attended and was on a Tudor theme.

Maureen Poole, who works in the kitchens of Kentwell Hall in Long Melford and regularly cooks Tudor banquets as part of the Recreation of Tudor Life days which are held there, spoke about the kitchens, Tudor cooking and dishes, and Tudor customs.

The next meeting will be on Monday at 7.30pm in the village hall when Paul Kelly will talk about Cooking with Turkey and the competition will be for items which can be classed in the category of it’s old, but it still works.
