The September meeting was opened by president Margot Williams, who welcomed members and visitors after the summer break.
Six birthday posies were presented, and Dr J Pearson, of Essex University, spoke on how women lived in Essex in the 18th century.
There will be a Macmillan coffee morning, hosted by Janet Humphries on October 2, and a French trip from May 12 to 16.
