A RENOWNED travelling circus has started its run at Braintree Village retail outlet – bringing fun and laughter for families.

Big Kid Circus kicked off its string of shows from March 13 and will continue to March 24, with several shows each day.

The Big Kid Circus was founded in 2005 by Biliana and Kiril Kirilov, two acrobatic performers.

Biliana previously joined a circus at the age of 13, and has travelled to Cuba, Italy and Greece.

Together the experienced pair have produced 16 tours in the UK.

There were high expectations for the level of showmanship for Big Kid Circus’s Braintree residency.

After experiencing the two-hour show last Saturday, I can confirm it’s an amusing and action-packed outing from start to finish.

Once inside the huge tent, located just outside the shopping village, excited children and parents make their way to the venue’s seating area.

Music echoes across the auditorium and smoke fills the venue as the crowd prepares itself.

Two dancers bound on to the stage with one rapping in Spanish as they get the crowd excited about what is to come.

The lights go down and the first act comes out - a masked figure who theatrically dances around a large square strobe light which beams down on to the stage’s floor.

After the dance concludes, two colourful jester-type characters with large hula-hoops weave around the stage.

After this point, we are introduced to the mainstays of the show - charismatic ringmaster Kevin and a mischievous Mexican clown duo known as Double Trouble.

Throughout the well-paced show, some of the most exciting moments include the acrobatic acts on display.

These include a tight-rope walker who dazzles the crowd, a trapeze artist who effortlessly glides around the arena, four men who perform impressive acrobatic feats, and more.

The main event and grand finale is the incredible Globe of Death.

Big Kid Circus claim it is Europe’s first time ever with all-female motorcycle riders performing.

Rider Julia, from Manchester, is joined by fellow motorcyclists Vanessa, from Brazil, and Ronica, from Iraq.

The three women make their way round the metal globe at breakneck speeds in what is an extremely dangerous but thrilling act to watch.

The show finishes with a mass final singalong as ringmaster Kevin and Double Trouble bid their goodbyes to the delighted crowd.
