A SCHOOL with a “welcoming, nurturing and community feel” which pupils say is a “family” has been lauded in a top report from watchdogs.

Beckers Green Primary School in Braintree continues to be a good school following the latest Ofsted inspection at the site.

The school was praised for its “ambitious curriculum”, “high-quality teaching” and “inclusivity”.

The report said: “Beckers Green Primary has a welcoming, nurturing and community feel.

“Pupils are safe and the school’s core values and ‘bee’ awards inspire pupils to do their best.

“Pupils say the school is a family where anyone is welcome and have high expectations of themselves. They are respectful and attentive in lessons.

“Pupils are clear about the expectations of behaviour and consistently demonstrate this everywhere.”

Inspector Nina Kemp also had high admiration for the leaders and staff at the school.

The report reads: “Parents are overwhelmingly supportive of leaders and staff.

“Leaders have included staff in the work to design an ambitious curriculum.

“High-quality teaching, alongside regular checking of what pupils know, helps pupils to achieve well.

“Teachers set work that helps pupils to retain important ideas and staff give pupils opportunities to practise what they need to.

“Staff are extremely happy and value how leaders take their well-being and workload into account and Governors and trustees take an active role.”

The inspector also described the school as “very inclusive”.

“Staff make appropriate adaptations in and out of classrooms to support the learning of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities”, it added.

Headteacher Claire Smyth said: "We were thrilled Ofsted recognised so many of the features which we feel make Beckers Green such a special place to learn.

“It was noted the curriculum we have developed is ambitious and that a love of reading permeates across the whole school.

“The inspector also noted that the school was very inclusive, and behaviour is consistently good.

“Overall, however, we were most proud that pupils said the school is a family where anyone is welcome.

“This is definitely our aim and something we continually strive for."

The school is set to host an open morning for next year’s early years foundation stage intake on Saturday, October 14, at 10.30am to 12pm.
