Braintree Golf Club's 2008 Championship went right down to the wire.

David Thomas and Luke Richardson tied for the Championship title after both shooting 143.

The tournament went to sudden death, where Richardson won the first extra hole to become this year's champion.

A total of 29 players contested a 36-hole scratch medal on a very testing course.

After 18 holes, Thomas and Richardson led proceedings both on gross 72, while 17-year-old Robin Butcher was a close third on gross 73.

After 17 holes of the afternoon round Thomas and Richardson were still tied for the lead with one hole to play.

After two shots on the longest par five on the course, Thomas was on the front edge of the green.

However, Richardson, who had taken three shots, was near the pin.

Both players had opportunities to win the championship but ended up making five to halve the hole, before Richardson prevailed.
