A SCOUT group got back together to enjoy their first international summer camp for three years.

The 1st Silver End Scouts went overseas again for their camp, spending a week in a hostel in the Dutch coastal town of Noordwijk.

During the seven-day adventure, the group got to experience many new activities, as well as learning about the history of the Netherlands.

The Scouts got to learn to surf, went rafting on the North Sea and also enjoyed power kiting.

Dune scootering around the many tracks and trails was something new for them, as was having a guided tour around the Atlantik Wall Museum and hidden tunnels under the dunes.

There were also days out in Duinrell to visit a theme park and swimming complex, and a trip to Rotterdam to one of the largest climbing and high ropes complexes in Europe.

During a day in the Dutch capital, a canal cruise was enjoyed in the afternoon after spending the morning having a tour around Anne Frank’s House.

Another highlight of the week was taking part in go-kart racing… on ice.

The 90-minute journey to Rucphen was well worth it as the Scouts got to experience the activity in a massive indoor skiing and snow complex.

One Scout, called Lacie, said: “I enjoyed the theme park day and water park, but I thought the Anne Frank Museum was very educational and learnt a lot and enjoyed it.”

Fellow Scout Alex added: “I liked the dune scootering. It was the first day we got there, and we got to see a bit around the area and the beach.”

The Scouts' next overseas adventure is to Poland in February for a skiing trip.
