BRAINTREE school students were celebrating after finally securing some fantastic GCSE results.

Students at Notley High School and Braintree Sixth Form have been left delighted with their results after a long wait since taking their exams earlier this summer.

The school says it is “delighted with the outcomes”, adding that there has been some “outstanding individual successes, both in terms of students achieving the highest grades and fantastic personal achievements for many students”.

It congratulated all students and thanked staff for their hard work and parents and carers for their support.

Alex Harrington, raising standards leader for Year 11 said: “It has been a great pleasure to work with this group of students and to see them achieving such excellent results, which will enable them to go on to their chosen next steps and futures.”

Headteacher Maggie Ryan echoed the sentiments.

She said: “I am so happy to see the students’ success today.

“We are very pleased to be welcoming so many students to the sixth form in September and wish all those who will be starting courses or apprenticeships elsewhere all the very best.”

Some of the outstanding performances in the GCSEs included Keith S with an incredible seven 9s, one 8, one 7 and one 5, Yen X with six 9s, three 8s and a 7, Phoebe S with six 9s, one 8, one 7 and one 6 and Renn D, with six 9s and three 8s.

Further outstanding achievers were Marcie B with six 9s, one 8 and one 7, Sophie B, with three 9s, one 8, three 7s and one 6, Shanying G with three 9s, four 8s and two 7s, Manuela H with two 9s, four 8s, two 7s and one 6 and lastly Finan G, who achieved two 9s, four 8s, two 7s and one 6.

In what was the first year heading back to pre-pandemic grading, the grades in the east of England were down from last year but up on pre-pandemic figures.

A total of 21.9 per cent were awarded the top grades of 7/A or above, down 26.2 per cent from 2022.

However, this was still higher than in 2019, the last year that summer exams were taken before the pandemic, when 20.5 per cent of entries were awarded a 7/A or above.
