A DISPERSAL order has been put in place after police were tipped off about a “large car meet”.

The force says it received information that a large car meet has been organised to take place in Braintree tomorrow.

As result, a dispersal order has been put in place, which is set to last from 6pm tomorrow, Saturday, January 14, until 6am on Sunday, January 15.

The order covers the whole town and parts of the A131 by the racecourse and gives officers the power to direct people suspected of acting anti-socially to leave the area.

Braintree and Witham Times:

Acting Insp Andrew Christian, of Braintree and Uttlesford community policing team, said: “While we have no problem with people congregating to show off their vehicles, we do have an issue with the anti-social use of these vehicles.

“Historically, vehicles associated with similar car meets have caused noise-related issues as well as instances of racing.

“I have authorised a dispersal order so we can deal effectively with anyone who uses their vehicle in an anti-social manner.

“Officers from my team will be on duty and engaging with the drivers to ensure everyone can enjoy themselves without causing harassment, alarm or distress to other road users or residents of Braintree.”
