A CREATIVE school pupil has won a Christmas card competition to help spread festive cheer to members of the community.

Evelyn Jones, from St Andrew’s Junior School, in Hatfield Peverel, was announced the winner of the competition organised by David Wilson Homes.

It saw youngsters design a Christmas card which would then be delivered to residents of the development on Birkdale Rise.

After a range of creative entries were submitted, 9-year-old Evelyn was crowned the winner and was presented with an art kit prize.

Becky Black, headteacher at St Andrew’s Junior School, said: “This was a lovely opportunity for our Year 5 children and a wonderful way to spread Christmas cheer to our community. We are very proud of Evelyn and her winning entry.”

Annette Hurst, sales director at David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties, said: “It was a pleasure to team up with St Andrew’s Junior School on a second project this year to create these wonderful Christmas cards.

“All the entries we received from the talented children were excellent, and we’d like to thank everyone who took part in the competition for their efforts.

“We hope Evelyn will take great pride in knowing she has helped spread festive cheer in the local community.”
