Preparations for next season's first campaign in the Blue Square South are already underway as Chelmsford City have been quick to tie down local Coca-Cola League One side Colchester United for a pre-season friendly match.
The match against Geraint Williams' U's, who were only relegated from the second tier of English football this season, will kick-off at Melbourne at 7.45pm on Wednesday July 23. It is expected to attract a similarly healthy crowd to the visit of a strong team for a warm-up game in 2007/08.
City gained promotion to the Conference setup during the campaign just finished, and are keen to establish themselves with a testing set of friendlies behind them.
Strengthening off the pitch is also a currently a concern of the club, to the extent they are seeking an assistant secretary to help with the important behind the scenes work at Melbourne.
With the club's recent advancement both on and off the field, it has been decided to enlarge the football secretarial team. An opportunity has, therefore, arisen for the position of assistant hon. secretary.
Duties will involve assisting the secretary for match arrangements and liaising with the match officials as well as dealing with general correspondence and accepting matchday duties, although this list is not exhaustive! Deputising for the Secretary may also occasionally be necessary.

On the fairer side of the club, Chelmsford City Ladies made up for their narrow penalty shootout loss in the County Cup final against Colchester United the previous week, by confirming the title in the Eastern Region Women's League at the weekend, with a 5-0 victory over Arlesey Town on Sunday.
