Anti-Stansted expansion campaigners vow to fight on

Anti-Stansted expansion campaigners have vowed to continue their fight following the submission of a planning application for a second runway.

Stop Stansted Expansion (SSE) declared airport operator BAA's plans for another runway at Stansted Airport as "tantamount to a declaration of war on the local community and global environment."

Peter Sanders, SSE campaign chairman, said: "The application must serve as a rallying call not just for local people who seek to safeguard this unspoilt area of the countryside but for all those who care about our legacy to future generations."

The village of Molehill Green, near the Airport, was the location of a SSE rally today and would be within the airport boundary if BAA's plans get the go-ahead.

About 30 protesters holding placards chanted no way BAA' outside the village pub - The Three Horseshoes.

One campaigner, Maggie Sutton, 49, moved from Brown's End Road in Broxted to Lindsell as her house, and many of her neighbours, was listed as underthreat.

She said: "When I came to live here ten years ago it was a totally different place, the community was at one. That has been ruined.

"We moved nearby as we didn't want to give up on the area but there's all the uncertainty."
