A newly assembled band, made up of a mix of youth and experience, is set to rock Braintree and all in the name of charity.

Drummer, Tony Krelle, has come out of retirement to play in, Driven, and the band are hoping to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Mr Krelle, from Braintree, has not played a live gig for 20 years and is looking forward to headlining at Hogs Wine Bar, Braintree, this Friday.

Driven are so called because Mr Krelle, 48, is a driving instructor and the bands singer, Murt Walsh, 38, is a HGV driver.

Mr Krelle said: "I'm absolutely looking forward to it. It's been a while, so it's been like starting from the beginning again but we've got our set together and it's all shaping up."

The two younger members of the band are Dan Mills, 18, who plays the guitar and Jack Warren, 17, who is the bass player.

The band also includes Mr Krelle's wife Sue, who is a backing singer, and Gary Warren, who is Jack's dad and stands in on guiter for a few tracks.

"We aren't in our first flush of youth but we've got a couple of young blokes who are the real talent," said Mr Krelle.

The band play 70s rock classics and are inspired by the likes of Deep Purple, Queen and Jimi Hendrix.

Mr Walsh is a regular fundraiser for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Mr Krelle said he was keen to lend his support to the worthwhile cause.

"Murt does a lot for the charity, in the past he has done charity canoeing. This was just another way of raising money for them," said Mr Krelle.

Driven are being supported by Gaolbird and Mr Krelle said that the support band are a group of youngsters who play mainly 60s covers.

The night of 60s and 70s classics starts at 8.30pm, tickets are £5 with all proceeds going to the cancer charity.
