A MUM who trained for the London Marathon by pushing a double buggy has given her sponsorship money to a hospital's baby unit.
Karen Hopegood, of Rickstones Road in Rivenhall, gave £316 to the special care baby unit (SCBU) at Colchester General Hospital, where she used to work a few shifts as a nursery nurse.
Mrs Hopegood, 35, prepared for April's marathon by taking her daughters Bethany, four, and Emma, one, in a special running pushchair while out training.
Both girls were born at Colchester General Hospital.
"Fortunately Bethany and Emma didn't need the SCBU but I've always been keen to support the unit because I now they can always make use of additional equipment," said Mrs Hopegood, who also raised money for the unit after running the London Marathon in 1998 and 2005.
Lindsey Harding-Payne, manager of the SCBU, said: "All the staff on the unit are enormously grateful for Karen's continued support."
