COURTAULDS Halstead Bowls Club's B team are the North West Essex League division C's Champion of Champions after success against Clavering in the final at Witham.

The final pitted the the winners of division three's section one - Courtaulds Halstead - against the section two winners and was played on three rinks over 18 ends.

The early stages were close, but the Halstead trios started to dominate the second half and cruised to victory on all three rinks.

Ray Joslin, Derek Brooks and skip Tony Jones, had a good start to their game, gaining a 10-6 lead by the halfway stage and, with six consecutive winning ends, dominated the latter part to romp home as 18-10 victors.

Tony Rivers, Mike Bristow and skip Whicker Clemence were all square at the mid-point of their game, but the Halstead side applied pressure during the second half, scoring ten shots up to the 16th end, with only a two-shot consolation gain for the opposition pegging them back late on as they triumphed 18-12.

A five-shot capture on the fifth end and a fightback by Clavering saw Tony Wright, Ray Joslin and skip Bob Tuck only two shots up at the halfway point as they led 11-9, but, once again, Halstead bowlers came to the fore during the second half, capturing 11 shots and crossing the line as 22-14 winners.
