IT’S almost time to let the dogs out and head to Hatfield Peverel for a day all about the hounds and raising cash for charity.

Canine lovers are expected to flock to Essex Dog Day for competitions, lessons and a huge range of stalls when it takes place this Sunday.

The final touches are being added after months of hard work to get everything ready ahead of the event which will take place in the grounds of Crix House.

Ian Twinley, the owner of Crix and chairman of the organising committee, said he was hopeful fundraising records will be broken.

Mr Twinley said: “We are setting our sights on another extremely successful day.

“Last year, thanks to everyone involved, we raised £65,747, which brings the grand total raised in seven years to £410,000.

“This year we are aiming to take that total to half a million and so that we can support even more good causes.”

“The enthusiasm shown for the event is heart-warming and it is always very popular and well supported.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming our visitors once again with their four-legged friends.

“There will be plenty for everyone of all ages to enjoy with spectacular displays, lots of food on offer and many stalls which don’t just cater for dogs.”

Funds raised by the event are managed by the Essex Community Foundation and are handed to causes which offer important support to people in need.

Competitions for all types of dog will be on offer while a children’s arena will keep youngsters - up to the age of 15 - entertained.

Meanwhile, in the main arena, police dogs and cars will be chasing criminals, the Galloping Acrobats will make their debut and the Watermill Wolves - the wolf pack which starred in Game of Thrones - will make an appearance.

It will take place on Sunday, August 26 from 10am until 5pm.
