An airport security worker raised £6,000 for charity in honour of her mum, who suffers from dementia.

Lynne Clark, 45, had her head shaved at Stansted Airport last month after rallying her work colleagues and friends and convincing them to donate sponsor money for Dementia UK.

Ms Clark’s mother Gwynne Fitzgerald, 66, was diagnosed with the condition eight-years-ago and recently had to be moved to Aspen Grange Care home, Braintree.

She said: “The last 18 months have been hell to be honest.

“She was living in Islington and she went missing for a few days.

“We eventually managed to get her in to the care home which at least means she is safe.

“I have been in tears more than I have been happy but now I am back on my feet and I decided I would do something for charity.”

A well known character in Braintree, Ms Clark has been a regular charity fundraiser in the past, and is known for her cake baking skills.

However this fundraiser was a little more extreme, which meant in total people pledged more than £6,000.

She said: “It is the first time I have done anything quite this drastic.

“Most people around Braintree know me and I have been getting a lot of funny looks since I had it done.

“The first thing I do in the mornings still is go for my hairbrush.

“I’m used to having the mickey taken out of me at work but everyone has just been really supportive of me doing it.

“I am gobsmacked by the amount of people who have donated.

“My initial target was £500. I have collected more than £6,000 in sponsors.”
