WICKFORD vice-captain Dale Kinsey says a top five finish is not beyond his side ahead of a derby clash against Leigh in Shepherd Neame Essex League Division Two tomorrow.

The two meet tomorrow at the Patmore Memorial Sports Ground.

And Kinsey says, following last weekend’s win over Oakfield Parkonians, another good showing is important.

“We played on a terrible pitch and we were fortunate we batted second as they showed us what we needed not to do in our innings,” he said. “We had to ask people to bat differently, which was challenging but they adapted.

“We play a Leigh side that are finding it difficult but you cannot go into a game with that attitude or you will come unstuck.

“Our bowling and fielding has been excellent this season but we need two or three batsmen to step up and take the lead with the bat and score the runs.

“I want a top five finish and we can still achieve that. We have five big games remaining.”

Old Southendian & Southchurch can put further distance between themselves and the relegation places when they host bottom club Harlow tomorrow.

The Old Boys picked up a morale-boosting victory against Leigh last time out to leapfrog them in the standings.

And they now take on lowly Harlow in the knowledge that victory could see them finish the day in the top half.

Horndon-on-the-Hill welcome Oakfield Parkonians.
