A charity has received a £2,000 donation from a company which delivers health services across Essex.

Beat It Box, a charity providing gift boxes to teenage cancer patients, was given the sum by Provide, a Community Interest Company.

Provide delivers community health and social care across Essex, Cambridge, Peterborough and north east London.

It decided to donate the money in line with its obligation to reinvest surplus cash.

Provide chairman, Derrick Louis, said: “At Provide, we recognise that supporting local charities and voluntary organisations is a very important part of our work and helps to underpin the social and care services that we offer.

“As a community interest company, we happily accept our obligation to re-invest part of our surpluses back into the communities we serve.

“When we heard about the innovative work of Beat It Box in supporting children and young people during their chemotherapy treatment we wanted to help them continue such work”.

The donation will be used to provide more gift boxes for young people during their cancer treatment.

Boxes include a hot water bottle, blanket, headphones, flask or cup, DVDs, games, and lots of other helpful items.

Lisa Corbett, founder of Beat It Box, said: “We are delighted to receive this donation from Provide.

“It will be used to create more gift boxes to support teenagers struggling with cancer and the side effects of its treatments.

“We receive referrals from the charity CLIC Sargent, NHS nurses or through our website.

“To date we have delivered 78 boxes to teenagers battling cancer”.
