The M11 northbound has re-opened after a lorry carrying hay caught fire near Stansted Airport yesterday afternoon.

Emergency resurfacing work was needed on the carriageway between junction 8, for Stansted, and junction 10 after the truck caught fire just after 5pm yesterday afternoon.

It was carrying around 44 tonnes of hay when it caught fire causing severe damage to the surface and huge tailbacks.

The road was closed through the night as Essex County Fire and Rescue Service worked to put the fire out and make sure the hay would not catch alight again.

A digger was brought in to help crews break down the hay and make sure the fire didn't spread.

According to the Essex Traffic Control Centre, the motorway fully re-opened at 9.05am and queues on the M11 and A120 westbound are said to be easing.
