FOUR cyclists battled sweltering conditions to complete a 450-mile cycling challenge from Land’s End to Braintree in memory of a brave five-year-old.

Darell Weller, Kevin Edwards, Rhys Mallett, and Steve Dyball - who call themselves the ‘No Brainers’ - took on the ride for the Jacob Jones appeal.

The group decided to do the ride last year before Jacob sadly died in December after a three-year fight with neuroblastoma cancer.

Following months of training, the four men and their support drivers, Lee Rogers and Nick Ellis, set out on July 2 across the hilly terrain of the south west before finishing at the Flitch Way six days later.

Mr Dyball said: “The Cornish hills really did knock the energy out of us.

“Yes, for every hill you go up you do go down one, but even that’s not easy as we’re braking all the way as we don’t know what’s at the bottom.”

The team had to contend with high temperatures throughout the ride but also battled through heavy rain on day two.

Mr Edwards said: “When we planned the trip 12 months ago, we never dreamt it would turn out to be so hot and sunny.”

The team have now raised an incredible £6,300 for Jacob’s Appeal.
