A well established business in Braintree has revamped its look with the help of an artist from London.

SixtyFour, in High Street, has been in the town for around a decade and has undergone a transformation to overhaul the shopping experience for customers.

What started as a card and gift shop is now a quirky haven, stocking products from local artists and businesses.

The artist known as ThisOne spent 2.5 hours painting a new sign above the shop on Friday, after being commissioned by owner Kirsty Sinclair and partner Paul Palmer.

He said: “I met Paul at Brick Lane doing a commission and he called me here.

“I only paint in black and white, mainly around London but I have been getting into Asia and other places.

“This was done completely freehand, they said they wanted animals and 64 in it.”

The cosmetic and stock changes have seen an increase in footfall, with small businesses being represented in the store.

Products are sourced individually and the shop has been so successful another has opened in Margate, as well as a pop-up in Brick Lane.

Mr Palmer said: “Kirsty asked for my input a while ago to change it and bring a more independent style.

“It’s always busy, everyone comments on where we get stuff, it’s through doing markets on Brick Lane, that’s what we want to do.

“Shopping is very boring now, it’s all the same. We are trying to make it interesting.

“We know the sellers and where things are made.”
