Police have found two men they were looking for in connection with an assault in Witham. 

A man in his 20s suffered serious injuries after an altercation in Newland Street at around 1.30am. 

Two 17-year-old boys, who were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, have been released on bail until Sunday, July 8. 

A 28-year old man, also arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, has also been released on bail until Sunday, July 8.

A 17-year-old and a 16-year-old boy, both arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, currently remain in custody. 

A 22-year-old man, from Witham, has now handed himself into police, in connection with the assault. 

Essex Police has now clarified the altercation began on the other side of the road outside Favourite Chicken & Ribs.

After the altercation, staff from the Red Lion looked after the victim and called 999.
