Schools are reminding students to remain vigilant after a man approached a teenager in Witham and offered her a lift home.

The man was driving a silver Ford Fiesta-type car when he pulled alongside the girl in Spinks Lane, near Maltings Academy.

She did not respond to the man and walked away during the incident which happened at around 4pm on Wednesday, June 13.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “The man was described as white and was thought to be around 60 years old.

“He had short brown hair and wore a blue shirt.

“No index for the car was given and it is not clear if was an old or newer model."

It is not currently believed to be linked to any other incidents.

Following an approach by a man to a girl in Armond Road, Witham, last month, New Rickstones Academy issued a letter to parents urging them to be vigilant.

Emma Baker, of Maltings Academy, which is part of the same trust, said: “Both schools are encouraging all students to remain vigilant at all times.

“The same letter appears on both school websites and remains there as a reminder.”
