Thousands of residents flooded the streets of Braintree for this year’s carnival.

Fitting the theme of Showtime, residents and community organisations donned their best and gathered across the town on Saturday to watch the colourful procession.

Sideshows, games and other fun-filled activities took place at Meadowside Park, Braintree, bringing the community together for the 55th edition of the popular event.

Martin Green, chairman of the carnival committee, said: “It went really well. We were very lucky with the weather again. All the floats were of a very high quality and the carnival field was very busy.

“The event really brought the community together, which is why we do it.

“Hopefully our collection tins will be full and Great Ormond Street will get a nice donation.”

Planning on next year’s event will begin in the coming weeks.

Mr Green said: “If anyone has any suggestions for a theme or a charity to support we would love to hear from them.”
