Thieves targeted the roof at Braintree Council's offices twice within a fortnight.

A quantity of lead strips were first stolen from the roof of Causeway House, in Bocking End, Braintree, between Sunday, April 15, and Monday, April 16,

Just over a week later, more lead strips were taken from another section of the roofing between Tuesday, April 24 and Thursday, April 26.

Essex Police have been made aware of both thefts.

A spokesman for Braintree Council said: "There has been two recent incidents where lead strips have been removed and stolen from the roof of the porch at Causeway House.

"Essex Police have been informed and are investigating the situation.

"We are looking into an alternative covering for the porch once it has been repaired.”
