COULD another Essex person be the most stylist glasses wearer in the country?

Specsavers has re-launched the search for the most glamorous Spectacle Wearer of the Year with Steps bandmate Claire Richards leading the way.

In 2017 more regional finalists were picked in Essex than any other county in the UK and Ireland including Colchester resident Natalie Kidd, and national winner Alex Miller from Silver End, suggesting the winner could reside here again.

A cash prize of £10,000 is up for grabs for those who wear their specs best.

Patrick Cooper, store director at Specsavers Colchester, said: "It was a pleasure to have a regional finalist in our town and we're sure Colchester can produce the next Spectacle Wearer of the Year.

"I’m looking forward to seeing all the entries."

Glasses wearers, aged 16 and over, can put themselves forward under five age categories from 16 to over 60s, plus a Facebook favourite voted for by the public.

A winner from each category will win a VIP makeover and mingle with celebrities at the awards ceremony in London this October.

More than just a bit of fun, the fabulous competition has raised more than half a million pounds for anti-bullying charity Kidscape over the past nine years.

The money raised will help to support the charity in providing practical support to children and families affected by bullying, including advice resources, phone support and workshops.

Popstar Claire, who won the Specs Appeal gong in 2017 and will be performing in Colchester this summer, said: "Bullying is an issue that has always been close to my heart so I’m proud to be representing a competition that supports a charity like Kidscape.

"The work they do to support individuals and families affected by bullying is invaluable."
