Volunteers from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service took a group of Fire Cadets on an expedition to the Peak District.

The expedition, which forms part of the Fire Cadets’ Duke of Edinburgh silver award, saw 38 young people head north to complete a range of activities with the community development and safeguarding team.

Camping for two nights and completing three days of walking in the rural area, including more than 30 miles around Buxton, the group were supported by the team throughout.

Donna Finch MBE, Chief Fire Officers’ Association national licence manager, said: “I am extremely proud of all the Fire Cadets and the instructors for working so hard over the weekend.

“Their dedication and commitment is outstanding and their successful completion of the weekend is well deserved.

"All members of this team volunteer their time to ensure they lead by example and act as role models to our Cadets.”

In total, 11 members of ECFRS’ community development and safeguarding team made the trip and in doing so gave up a combined 528 hours of their time.

Donna Finch, Martin Hills, Karl Amoss, Matt Hill, Peter Mountier, Dave Bond, Terry Myers, Graham Richardson, Dean Martin, Dan Hart and Michael Jakes all helped support the Fire Cadets’ activities, helping to teach them important life skills throughout the trip.
