A developer has given an eight-year-old fundraiser who has been inspired to help others by her younger sister, a £1,000 cash boost.

Chipping Hill Primary School student Grace Campbell-Garrett, of Witham, has been selected as one of Persimmon Homes Essex's community champions after impressiving with her dedication to raising money for the Children's Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF).

Grace's younger sister Eve, six, has a rare life-threatening liver disease and had life-changing surgery when she was just 12 weeks old.

Over time, Eve's condition has worsened and she desperately needs a transplant.

Sarah Campbell-Garrett, Grace's mother, said: "The fact that she is thinking about helping other children, whilst going through such a difficult time, really blows us away.

“We’re so grateful to Persimmon Homes Essex. We started out just wanting to raise £150, but with this donation and Grace’s Just Giving page, we have excelled our target totalling, so far, £3,433.97.”

Phil Standen, managing director of Persimmon Homes Essex, said: "We were truly touched by Grace’s selfless action, and her dedication to raising money for CLDF, she is an inspiration to us all.

"The Campbell-Garrett family will be in our thoughts.

“This month we have also donated £1,000 to the Essex Respite and Care Association, who do fantastic work across the region, working with mental health service users, and their carers.

“This is exactly what our community champions scheme is all about, supporting good causes to make a positive change.

"We continue to call on more people to apply to our community champion scheme.”
