A soapbox race will pit up to 60 teams against each other across the streets of Great Dunmow, raising money for good causes at the same time.

Great Dunmow Round Table has organised the community soapbox race, with the proceeds going to the charity, which supports dozens of schemes in the area.

The race will feature jumps, near misses and quite possibly some spectacular crashes, with competitors racing in homemade vehicles.

Jordan Bright, one of the organisers, said: "We are very excited for this event and believe it will be a great addition to the Great Dunmow and Essex calendar.

"We’re hoping the event will grow year on year and raise lots of money for a great charity.

"There are still spaces available if you would like to have fun and raise money for a great cause."

Best of all the event is free to watch, and will feature professional commentators, food outlets, a bar, stalls and a selection of children's entertainment.

The race takes place in Braintree Road, Great Dunmow, on Sunday, May 27, from 10am for an 11am start.

Entry price for a team of four is £60, with all of the profits going to Great Dunmow Round Table for distribution amongst the community.
