A free advice and support event for people living with Type two diabetes is being held.

Diabetes UK and Mid Essex Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) are hosting a Living with Diabetes Day on Tuesday (January 30).

The event is open to residents recently diagnosed with the condition, or those looking for updated support and guidance on diabetes.

Dr Ahmed Mayet, clinical lead for Mid Essex CCG, will be speaking at the event.

He said: “In my 15-year experience it has become clear that people with very good knowledge of diabetes have demonstrated exemplary control of their condition and achieved better outcomes, with fewer complications.

“This is why I strongly recommend that our patients attend these sorts of support events.”

There are thought to be more than 17,000 people living with Type two diabetes across mid Essex.

The condition can be treated with diet, exercise, medication and sometimes insulin.

Brioni Maker, from Diabetes UK, said: “There is a lot of information to take in, particularly at the time of diagnosis, so this event is a great way to get detailed expert advice in an easy-to-digest way.”

The event takes place between 9.30am and 4pm on Tuesday at Hamptons Sports and Leisure Meeting Room, Great Baddow.

Places are limited and should be booked by emailing meccg.communitycommissioning@nhs.net or calling 01376 501390.
