Plans to demolish and replace a set of rented and temporary homes in Braintree have been unveiled.

Greenfields Community Housing has applied to replace 11 temporary accommodation units with permanent structures and knock down and rebuild 20 other houses in Spalding Close, Braintree.

The new homes will be offered at affordable rents and for shared ownership in a move Greenfields hopes will regenerate the area.

A spokesman said: “With support from Greenfields, residents in the rented homes are in the process of moving or have already moved to an alternative permanent home.

“We have temporary housing available in other locations in the district, and will be replacing the homes on Spalding Close elsewhere.

“We aim to build 850 homes across the district and beyond from 2015 and 2020, to help meet local need.”

There are currently 31 two and three-bed properties in Spalding Close. After the redevelopment, 34 one, two, three and four-bedrooms properties will in Spalding Close.

A planning statement states: “The proposed new housing will be built to modern standards of construction, providing an energy efficient and sustainable property that will last long into the future.

“The application site is situated within a very sustainable location, and the newly constructed scheme will compliment its setting and provide an environmentally conscious development.”

Concept ideas were presented to residents at a consultation event, with around two thirds being in favour of the plans.
