A man has been sentenced to 16 weeks in prison for sexual assaulting a man and a woman on a rail replacement bus.

Hassan Hassan, aged 27, of Bell Farm Avenue, Dagenham, Essex, was convicted at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on 21 November.

He was sentenced to 16 weeks’ imprisonment, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £115 and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for seven years.

On 8 October this year, Hassan was travelling on a railway replacement bus to Billericay railway station.

When the bus arrived at the station, Hassan sexually assaulted a woman who was travelling on the bus with a young child. She screamed and staff came to her aid.

Whilst a member of staff was ejecting Hassan from the bus, Hassan sexually assaulted a male member of staff and then punched him.

Hassan was detained by staff until police arrived and arrested him.

Investigating officer, PC Matthew Hooper said: “We will not tolerate unwanted sexual behaviour or violence on the transport network. Hassan showed absolutely no remorse for his crimes and I applaud the court for sending him to prison.

"Members of the public should be able to travel on trains and busses without fear of being accosted, and members of staff should be able to carry out their duties without fear of violence.

"I encourage anybody who experiences unwanted sexual behaviour on the rail network to report it to the British Transport Police.”
